Semester One
One project that we worked on this semester was a project on writing equations in different forms. The assignment was to create either a graph with information relating to your life or to draw a picture of a nature scene and find lines within the picture. Then, we would write the equations of the lines in the six different linear equation forms.
Our final project was focused on creating our own final exam. Each student read through our textbook and wrote ten original equations based on the content included in the first four chapters of the first semester. These topics included absolute values, linear inequalities, basic operations of matrices, and quadratic equations and functions. Then, as a class, we went through each problem that was submitted and narrowed them down to those that we wanted to include on our final exam. We clarified directions and corrected any errors that we found in the problems. After that, Effi created our final exams from the problems that the students had written.
In math, I believe that my strength is understanding content and applying my knowledge to solve problems. My weakness in math is basic computation errors and not checking my work thoroughly enough.
Semester Two
This semester has been very successful for me in Algebra II. I took on the challenge of Added Math and was able to learn a great deal of extra content to ensure that I was receiving the full Algebra II course. I feel that this semester was a time when I truly felt comfortable in this course and was able to come into my own as a math student. This class was more fun during second semester, I think because our class was also more comfortable with each other. One of the projects that I remember the most was the conic project, because of how interesting my final drawing turned out. Though I drew an innocent picture of a cute caterpillar, when Effi followed my equations, it somehow turned into some sort of terrifying evil caterpillar creature who was floating in mid-air. Even though it was somewhat of a failure, it was still a very fun project and I learned a lot about conics.
